It seems more like a Teachings deck than Toast. Purity?! I used that card a few months ago to great effect. Where is the Archon of Justice?! Yeah, Runed Halo is the new hot thang. tongue

I really want to play this but can it go 50-50 vs. RDW? It doesn't play Finks but it does have an extra Purity, Runed Halo and Luminesce in the SB. I'm also thinking ahead about a possible version of this for Post Alara. It would probably start off looking like 5C Justice until certain Alara cards replaced some mediocre LBC cards. I'm looking to play one control deck that is hard to hate so I can sell most of my cards. I won't be playing as much cardboard magic so I figure a good control deck will hone my skills whenever I get the chance to play.

If you really take the time to tune it well then you could probably even be slightly favored against RDW, especially if they start to look like the winning deck from GP Copenhagen with no Magus of the Moon anywhere and just random monsters instead. That list is better in the mirror of course but gives up a ton of game IMO everywhere else so I think it's hard to justify overall.

Finks is not actually that great against modern red decks. What you really need is a way to deal with multiple 4/4's, as well as the Magus. I know some Europeans have taken to playing Pyroclasm instead of some copies of Firespout since it kills everything in their deck that Spout does (unless they play Ram-Gang) while coming down early enough to kill Figure on the draw. I actually think a couple of copies of Sudden Death would have merit as long as 1BB isn't a problem since it's not that much worse than Condemn against red and is helpful against Faeries and Teferi. And I know how much love you have for that card anyway, Jesse.

The proliferation of Magus creates some interesting design questions, and I've been talking about that a lot in the Merfolk thread on TCGPlayer. I think Spitebellows starts to become more interesting in decks besides RDW, for one.
